Figure 4: Three Connection Modes

5.1. General Setup Steps

  1. Matlafatsa: Plug the WiFi Repeater into a power outlet. Wait for the power indicator light to turn on.
  2. Hokela: On your computer or mobile device, connect to the repeater's default Wi-Fi network (usually named 'Ourlife_XXXX' or similar, without a password).
  3. Access Setup Page: Bula a web browser and enter the default IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.1 or check the manual for specific address) or domain name provided in the included user manual.
  4. Kena: Enter the default username and password (usually 'admin' for both, check the manual).
  5. Khetha Mokhoa: Follow the on-screen wizard to select your desired operation mode (Repeater, Router, or AP).

5.2. Repeater Mode

In Repeater Mode, the device extends the range of your existing Wi-Fi network. It connects wirelessly to your main router and rebroadcasts the signal.

  1. Select 'Repeater Mode' in the setup wizard.
  2. The repeater will scan for available Wi-Fi networks. Select your main Wi-Fi network from the list.
  3. Enter the password for your main Wi-Fi network.
  4. You can choose to keep the same SSID (network name) or create a new one for the extended network.
  5. Apply settings and wait for the repeater to restart. Once restarted, the extended network should be available.

5.3. Router Mode

In Router Mode, the device acts as a primary router, creating a new private network. This mode is typically used when you have a modem but no router.

  1. Connect the repeater's LAN port to your modem using an Ethernet cable.
  2. Select 'Router Mode' in the setup wizard.
  3. Configure your internet connection type (e.g., PPPoE, Dynamic IP, Static IP) as provided by your Internet Service Provider.
  4. Set up a new SSID and password for your new Wi-Fi network.
  5. Apply settings and wait for the repeater to restart.

5.4. AP (Access Point) Mode

In AP Mode, the device converts a wired network connection into a wireless one. It connects to your existing router via an Ethernet cable and broadcasts a new Wi-Fi signal.

  1. Connect the repeater's LAN port to a LAN port on your existing router using an Ethernet cable.
  2. Select 'AP Mode' in the setup wizard.
  3. Set up a new SSID and password for the wireless network broadcast by the repeater.
  4. Apply settings and wait for the repeater to restart.

6. Litaelo tsa Ts'ebetso

Once configured, your Ourlife WiFi Repeater will operate automatically. To connect devices:

  • Khokahano e se nang Waele: Batla the extended Wi-Fi network (either the same as your router's or the new SSID you created) on your wireless devices and connect using the appropriate password. Note that the passwords for your repeater are the same as your router's if you chose to keep the same SSID.
  • Khokahano ea Mehala: For devices like desktop computers or gaming consoles, you can connect them to the repeater's 100M LAN port using an Ethernet cable for a stable wired connection.

8. Ho rarolla mathata

  • Slow Speeds or Dropped Connection: Poor signal connection between the repeater and your main router can cause slow speeds or dropped connections. Try moving the repeater closer to your main router.
  • Cannot See Desired Wireless Network: If your device cannot detect the extended wireless network, the repeater might be out of range of your main router. Move the repeater closer to the router and rescan for networks.
  • 5GHz Band Performance Issues: Some users report that the 5GHz band may have a more limited range and weaker wall penetration compared to the 2.4GHz band. If you experience issues with 5GHz, try optimizing the repeater's placement or consider using the 2.4GHz band for devices further away or behind multiple obstacles.
  • Incorrect Password: Ensure you are using the correct Wi-Fi password. If in Repeater Mode with the same SSID, use your main router's password. If you created a new SSID, use the password you set during configuration.

10. Malebela a Mosebedisi

  • Sebaka se nepahetseng: For best results, place the repeater roughly halfway between your main router and the area where you need improved Wi-Fi. Ensure it's within a good signal range of your main router.
  • 5GHz Range Considerations: While 5GHz offers higher speeds, its range can be shorter and more susceptible to obstacles like walls compared to 2.4GHz. If you experience connectivity issues on the 5GHz band, try moving the repeater closer to your devices or consider using the 2.4GHz band for more stable, albeit slower, connections over longer distances or through barriers.
  • Network Name Consistency: If you choose to use the same network name (SSID) for your extended network as your main router, your devices should seamlessly switch between the router and repeater as you move around.
